The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna described Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been such conversations," the English capital native former Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I have a unique job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important stage of the season. Everything external hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "I don't think all people has to go around and declare what they were, but of course it's a really big football club."

The coach signed a new four-year contract in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is inclined to complete the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, due to a productive Nations League campaign, should they not end up Group J runners-up.

Given his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
