Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.
Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.
The England team stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".
The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.
England have already lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.
Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.
Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.
