The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl containing several human souls within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct souls, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have large blooms where their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
