The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
