The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
