The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
