This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
