Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."

Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I want up in that moment other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

Toronto's team won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
